Who says a dog doesn’t love a good book? Children can practice their reading skills and help scared shelter dogs learn to socialize in a new program at the Humane Society of Missouri.
In the Shelter Buddies Reading Program, kids can read aloud to a furry friend (who won’t complain if they mispronounce a word or two). The program helps anxious dogs feel comfortable in the presence of humans, which makes them more adoptable.
The kids get to experience the joy of volunteering and helping make a difference in an animal’s life.
