Category: All In One Convertible
Weight: 26 lbs
Size: 17 x 10 x 28.5 in
Capacity: Rear-facing from 5-50lbs. Forward-facing from 20-90 lbs. in a five point harness, and in booster mode from 50-120 lbs.(up to 57” tall).
Why We Like It: This is a solid choice for a car seat. It is designed to grow along with your child. It’s one of only a handful of seats that allows you to rear-face your little one up to 50 lbs. The longer you can rear-face your child, the safer your child will be. In addition, the Rainier has extra-deep side walls, a steel frame, aluminum reinforced headrest, and EPS foam around the child’s head/body which all increase safety protection. This car seat surpasses Federal crash test standards.
The space-saving design of this car seat allows extra room for passengers. The Rainier car seat has a nice head rest that your kiddo can sleep on. It also has a unique SuperLATCH system making installation strong and secure. There is both an audible click and a visual indicator that lets you know the connectors are locked and your child is safe.
The Rainier also has the largest forward-facing capacity of any 5-point harness car seat in the U.S. (20-90 pounds up to 57”). Keeping your forward facing child in a harness as long as possible increases their safety. Other pluses; it has 3 crotch strap positions, low sides (which makes it easier to load/unload your child), and it folds flat for travel or storage.
Cons: The metal frame adds weight, so this car seat is heavy. We’d use this as more of a permanent car seat versus one you plan to exchange between cars or travel with. Also. the installation can be a little tricky. We suggest you watch the Diono installation video before trying yourself.
Overall, the Diono Rainier All-In-One Convertible gets top marks for safety – and when it comes to choosing a car seat, that’s important. The ability to rear-face your child up to 50 lbs, and keep him/her in a 5 point harness up to 90 lbs makes this a solid safety choice.
