As your pregnancy progresses, it gets harder and harder to be comfortable with your burgeoning belly. Many pregnant women wonder, what’s the best way to sleep when pregnant?
We can answer that!
The best sleep position during pregnancy is “SOS” (sleep on side). Even better, sleep on your left side.
Why? Sleeping on your left side increases the amount of blood and nutrients that reach the placenta and your baby.
To make yourself more comfortable, you may also want to keep your legs and knees bent, and put a pillow between your legs.
Or you might want to try a body pillow. Moms-to-be rave about these things!
Sleeping on your stomach is obviously not a good choice because a baby bump and sore breasts are going to make this position pretty uncomfortable. It’s not going to be comfortable for your baby either.
You also want to avoid sleeping on your back, particularly as your pregnancy progresses, because the weight of your uterus can press against your spine. This in turn can decrease blood flow to your baby.
If you’re struggling with back pain, some moms have found relief by using a half-moon bolster.
